Apple Partners with Anthropic on AI-Powered "Vibe-Coding" Platform for Xcode

On May 2, Reuters reported that Apple is collaborating with Amazon-backed Anthropic on a new AI-powered "vibe-coding" platform, according to Bloomberg News. This platform, an upgraded version of Apple's Xcode, integrates Anthropic's Claude Sonnet AI model to write, edit, and test code for programmers. "Vibe coding" involves AI agents generating code, a trend gaining traction in the AI field.

Anthropic declined to comment, and Apple did not immediately respond to Reuters. Apple plans to use the software internally and has not decided on a public release. Previously, Apple announced Swift Assist, an AI coding tool for Xcode slated for 2024, but it was never released due to concerns from engineers about potential delays in app development.

AI coding assistants are becoming popular, with OpenAI reportedly in talks to acquire Windsurf, an AI-assisted coding tool, for $3 billion. As competition in generative AI intensifies, Apple is partnering with AI firms and enhancing on-device AI features, supported by more powerful chips designed to handle tasks like accessing OpenAI's ChatGPT.
