This technology creates realistic facial animations for 3D avatars using audio input. Nvidia is open-sourcing Audio2Face, its AI-driven tool that creates lifelike facial animations for 3D avatars using audio input. This move allows developers to leverage the tool and its framework to build realistic 3D characters for games and applications. Audio2Face analyzes a voice’s acoustic properties to generate animation data, which it then applies to a 3D avatar’s facial expressions and lip movements. Nvidia highlights that the tool supports both pre-scripted content and real-time livestreams. Developers, including Farm51 for Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone and the team behind Alien: Rogue Incursion Evolved Edition, have already integrated Audio2Face into their games. Alongside open-sourcing the Audio2Face models and SDKs, Nvidia is releasing the tool’s training framework, enabling users to customize models for specific applications.

Pope Leo XIV Outlines Papal Vision, Highlights AI Challenges in First Outing

Image
In his first public appearance since his election, Pope Leo XIV laid out the vision for his papacy on Saturday, emphasizing artificial intelligence as a critical global issue while reaffirming the inclusive priorities of his predecessor, Pope Francis. The first American pope also made a personal mark by visiting a sanctuary south of Rome tied to his Augustinian order and Pope Leo XIII, his namesake.Traveling to Genazzano, Leo visited the Madre del Buon Consiglio sanctuary, a 15th-century pilgrimage site managed by Augustinian friars and elevated to a minor basilica by Pope Leo XIII. Addressing the gathered townspeople outside the church, he called the Madonna’s presence both a gift and a responsibility, offering a blessing before departing in a black Volkswagen. On his return to the Vatican, he stopped to pray at Pope Francis’ tomb in St. Mary Major Basilica.Earlier, Leo held his first formal audience with the cardinals who elected him, citing Francis’ 2013 mission statement and pledgi...

Apple Partners with Anthropic on AI-Powered "Vibe-Coding" Platform for Xcode

Image
On May 2, Reuters reported that Apple is collaborating with Amazon-backed Anthropic on a new AI-powered "vibe-coding" platform, according to Bloomberg News. This platform, an upgraded version of Apple's Xcode, integrates Anthropic's Claude Sonnet AI model to write, edit, and test code for programmers. "Vibe coding" involves AI agents generating code, a trend gaining traction in the AI field. Anthropic declined to comment, and Apple did not immediately respond to Reuters. Apple plans to use the software internally and has not decided on a public release. Previously, Apple announced Swift Assist, an AI coding tool for Xcode slated for 2024, but it was never released due to concerns from engineers about potential delays in app development. AI coding assistants are becoming popular, with OpenAI reportedly in talks to acquire Windsurf, an AI-assisted coding tool, for $3 billion. As competition in generative AI intensifies, Apple is partnering with AI firms and en...

AI in Everyday Life: 5 Surprising Tools You Didn't Know You Needed

Artificial intelligence. It sounds futuristic, complex, maybe even a little intimidating. But the truth is, AI has quietly woven its way into the fabric of our daily lives, often in ways we don't even realize. Forget robot butlers and sentient computers – the real AI revolution is happening in the subtle tools that make our routines smoother, quicker, and surprisingly more efficient. Here are five such tools that might just surprise you: 1. The Smart Keyboard That Finishes Your Sentences Think beyond autocorrect. Modern smartphone keyboards, powered by sophisticated natural language processing (NLP) – a branch of AI – predict your next words with uncanny accuracy. They learn your writing style, suggest relevant emojis, and even offer entire sentence completions. Real-life Use Case: Crafting a quick email on the go? Your smart keyboard can anticipate your closing remarks, saving you precious seconds. Sending a text to a friend? It might suggest the perfect witty response before yo...

Breaking: Warren Barkley Discusses Google Cloud’s AI and Developer Ecosystem

Image
Warren Barkley, Head of Product for Vertex AI, Generative AI, and Machine Learning at Google Cloud, recently sat down with TechDay to share insights on the evolving developer ecosystem, the relationship between Google and Google Cloud, and the changing skillsets required for AI development. With experience building teams at AWS and Microsoft, Barkley provided a unique perspective on how Google Cloud approaches its mission, emphasizing its focus on developers and the tools they need to succeed.Barkley highlighted the distinct approaches of the major cloud providers, drawing from his time at AWS and Microsoft. “Microsoft is really approaching it from a very businessy enterprise place,” he explained, noting their emphasis on corporate solutions. “Amazon is very much an infrastructure company,” he added, describing their focus on foundational technology. In contrast, Barkley emphasized Google’s developer-centric philosophy. “Google generally starts from the developer first,” he said. “Our ...

Just in: Microsoft Pauses AI Data Center Projects, Including $1 Billion Ohio Plan

Image
Microsoft has announced that it is “slowing or pausing” several of its data center construction projects, including a significant $1 billion initiative in Ohio, signaling a shift in its ambitious plans to expand AI infrastructure. This decision suggests that the surge in demand for artificial intelligence technology, which has driven massive investments in computing facilities, may not require as many resources as initially projected. The move has implications for local communities and raises questions about the pace of AI adoption across industries. In Ohio, Microsoft confirmed this week that it is halting early-stage construction on rural land it owns in Licking County, near Columbus. The company plans to reserve two of the three sites originally designated for data centers for agricultural use, effectively scaling back its presence in the region. This pause is part of a broader reassessment of Microsoft’s infrastructure strategy, as the tech giant navigates the evolving l...
